If you are meditating for the purpose of enlightenment or some other exterior motive you are not meditating at all, many people talk about meditation as a tool for getting somewhere, whilst they are correct in a sense, they still miss the point the whole way along, and the point of meditation is to be so in tuned with the present moment that there is nothing but this very moment, so when you meditate for a particular reason you aren’t meditating for the simple reason that you are not truly there.
When you are deluded and full of doubt, even a thousand books of scripture are not enough. When you have realized understanding, even one word is too much.

The idea of Now is that nothing can be done outside of it, past or future always happened Now, and it’s still happening. The world is one big happening, like a dance. So if animals could speak to humans and we asked them “well dear friend what time is it?” They would be baffled, they would say “well, of course it’s Now” Because it’s always Now, yet we seldom see it.
